Location: Joint Base Lewis-McChord (JBLM) is located in the beautiful Pacific Northwest on the Puget Sound, in Western Washington, JBLM is near the city of Lakewood, 10 minutes from Tacoma, 35 minutes from Seattle and 20 minutes from Olympia the state capital. Although we are a Joint Base, we are not contiguous. 7.9 miles separate Lewis-Main and McChord Fld. Both Lewis and McChord are situated in a key location along Interstate 5, allowing easy access to Sea-Tac Airport and to the deep water ports of Tacoma and Seattle. Lewis North - abundant high-quality, close-in training areas, including 115 live fire ranges. JBLM North hosts the Leader Development and Assessment Course, a capstone program for the U.S. Army's ROTC program.
Yakima Training Center - is used for maneuver training, land warrior system testing and live fire area, located in the south central portion of WA. It is bounded on the west by Interstate 82, on the south by the city of Yakima. It comprises 327,000 acres of land. It is one of the largest areas of shrub-steppe habitat remaining in Washington. Schools: Most JBLM students are served by the Clover Park School District. 5 elementary schools are on base. Junior and Senior High school students living on post attend school off-base at Lakes High school, Clover Park High Harrison Prep Academy, Woodbrook Junior High, and Mann Junior High.

Defense Switched Network (DSN) Dialing Instructions
The DSN is the provider of long-distance a communications service for the Department of Defense (DoD). Every installation has a special DSN number and the numbers vary by world-wide location. In order to place a call using DSN, the caller must be using a military phone on an installation. Cell phones cannot dial DSN numbers. When dialing a DSN number from a United States installation to another United States installation, it is unnecessary to dial the DSN 312 area code. When dialing a DSN number to/from overseas locations, the DSN area code must be included. The operator can be reached at commercial (719) 567-1110. Please note that long distance charges may be incurred.
