Location: Osan Air Base is located in Pyeongtaek City, Gyeonggi Do, South Korea. Osan Air Base (AB) is one of two major airfields operated by the U.S. in Korea and the only USAF facility in the Republic of Korea (ROK) entirely planned and built by the U.S. from scratch during the Korean War. The base is located 4.7 miles southwest of the city of Osan. Seoul, the capital of South Korea, is only 30 miles north of Osan. Osan Air Base homepage.
Cost of Living: The cost of living in the off-base community varies with the exchange rate between the U.S. dollar and the Korean won. Rent is high when the amount of rent is compared to the size and quality of off-base housing. Rent can range from $500 p/mo for a one bedroom apartment to $2,000 for a four bedroom apartment. A Cost of Living Allowance (COLA) is paid at Osan, and the amount depends on marital status, number of dependents, and other factors. Fifty dollars Hardship Duty Pay is also paid to military members assigned to Osan.

Base Transportation: The Osan Base Shuttle Bus runs every hour. Express Buses are available during "rush hour" for active duty in uniform only. A shuttle bus between Yongsan Army Garrison (Seoul) and Osan AB runs approximately every hour between about 6:00 a.m. to 9:40 p.m. on weekdays and approximately every hour between about 7:00 a.m. and 10:00 p.m. on weekends and holidays. The cost is $6.20 each way.

Child Development Centers: The Osan CDC provides care for children 6 weeks to 5 years of age. Some of the programs offered at the CDC include full-time contracted care, part-time contracted care, ‘space available' hourly care and a Part Day Enrichment Program (PDE). Call DSN 315-784-4966 011-82-31-661-4966. Currently, Family Child Care (FCC) is not offered at Osan AB.
Schools: Osan American Elementary School (K thru 6th), Osan Middle School and Osan American High School are located on base. Standardized test scores for Osan AB schools are available through the DoDEA Data Center.
DODDS will now fund for alternative schools for 9-12th grade command sponsored students in the Osan area. This includes both the International Christian School in Songtan and the University of Nebraska home schooling courses. There is limited space available at the International Christian School. Youth Programs: The Osan Youth Center caters to youth 9-13 years of age. Affiliated with the Boys and Girls Clubs of American, the center offers instructional classes, technology center, game room, kitchen/pool room, gymnasium, homework/TV room and Outdoor Nature Classroom. Call 315-784-4607
The Teen Center, known as "Club Nowhere", offers sporting activities, as well as the Congressional Award Program, Keystone Club, and TRAIL program. Club Nowhere is also a place where teens can socialize and hang out with friends. The Teen Center, which caters to youth 13-18 years old, is located in Building 781 and can be reached by calling DSN 315-784-1492.

Housing: Osan Air Base has limited base housing for officers and enlisted personnel. Only accompanied Command Sponsored Personnel (CSP) with at least a 24 month tour may receive Military Family Housing (MFH). Accompanied CSP (at least 24 months) are assigned MFH based on categories A, B, and C. Categories are defined as Key Billets, Key & Essential and all others. MFH currently consists of three towers: Seoraksan Tower, Hallasan Tower and Jirisan Tower. Call the Osan Housing office at 011-82-31-661-1840/011-82-31-661-6791.
Employment: Employment options are limited at Osan Air Base. Most available jobs include child care, food service, sales clerk, AAFES, and (NAF) services. Limited opportunities are available in contracting, teaching and the NSPS system. For job opportunities on base, visit the Osan Human Resources office website. There are no unemployment benefits while stationed at Osan.
Medical Services: The 51st Medical Group provides medical and dental care to all assigned and attached military members of the 7th Air Force, 51st Fighter Wing, associate units and 13 geographically separated units. If more specialized care is required, patients will then be referred to the 121st General Hospital, Yongsan Army Garrison in Seoul or other referral facilities in the local community, Japan, Hawaii, or locations in the Continental United States. Defense Service Network (DSN) Dialing Instructions
The DSN is the provider of long-distance communications service for the Department of Defense (DoD). Every installation has a special DSN number and the numbers vary by world-wide location. In order to place a call using DSN, the caller must be using a military phone on an installation. Cell phones cannot dial DSN numbers. When dialing a DSN number from a United States installation to another United States installation, it is unnecessary to dial the DSN 312 area code. When dialing a DSN number to/from overseas locations, the DSN area code must be included. The operator can be reached at commercial (719) 567-1110.
