Location:  Tinker Air Force Base and the Oklahoma City Air Logistics Center are located in the "Heart of Oklahoma", just five miles from downtown Oklahoma City (OKC). The OKC Metro area is a very military- friendly area. Tinker AFB homepage.

Child Development Centers: Three centers on base:

The East and West centers are certified by Air Force, accredited with the National Association of the Education for Young Children (NAEYC). The South CDC will be going through accreditation within the next two years. Family Child Care approved homes available; call 405-734-7190.

Schools:  Tinker AFB is situated in the Mid-Del School District. Residents living on the installation will attend:

Tinker Elementary (grades PreK-5)
Jarman Middle School (grades 6-8)
Midwest City High School (grades 9-12)

There are no schools on the installation; however, Tinker Elementary is located just outside the gates.

Youth Programs:  The Tinker Youth Center offers a variety of educational, social, recreational and physical programs for children ages 3-18 years; the Membership Program for pre-teens 9-12 years and teens 13-18 years, the School Age Program, the Sports and Fitness Program, and Instructional Classes. Housing:  Privatized family housing, managed by Balfour Beatty Communities, includes 654 homes in four distinctive neighborhoods. Units include 2, 3 and 4 bedroom homes. Wait times vary depending on availability, average wait time is 6-9 months. Call the Tinker Housing Office at 405-734-7350, DSN 312-884-7350.

Employment:  Tinker Air Force Base is the state of Oklahoma's largest single site employer. Employment in the local area is oriented toward service, retail, and government. Medical Services:  Medical Services: The 72d Medical Group Clinic, located at 7050 Air Depot Bldg., in Building 1094, provides a wide array of outpatient services, and also houses the 507th Medical Reserve Squadron, Navy medical personnel assigned to Strategic Communications Wing ONE, and the U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs Pre-Discharge Disability Claims Office. Federal Voting Assistance Program (FVAP) ensures Service members, their eligible family members and overseas citizens have the tools and resources to register to vote and request an absentee ballot, regardless of their state of residence. Special Messages: 

  • Child Care for PCS/Retirement -- The Air Force Aid Society will pay up to 20 hours of child care (per child) in licensed Family Child Care (FCC) homes on-base or in Air Force affiliated homes off-base. Families with PCS orders may use the program within 60 days of the family's departure from or arrival at the base and retirement families may use the program within 60 days of family's departure from the base. Eligible Air Force families can take advantage of this program by bringing a copy of the PCS or retirement orders to the Airman and Family Readiness Center at 6001 Arnold St. If eligible, a voucher and a list of child care providers will be provided. All other branches of service may use the Expanded Child Care Program, oversight of this program is provided by the Family Child Care Office, 405-734-7190 or DSN 312-334-7190. Expanded Child Care Program will pay for 20 hours of child care, per child, within 60 days of arrival or departure from Tinker. Defense Service Network (DSN) Dialing Instructions

The DSN is the provider of long-distance communications service for the Department of Defense (DoD). Every installation has a special DSN number and the numbers vary by world-wide location. In order to place a call using DSN, the caller must be using a military phone on an installation. Cell phones cannot dial DSN numbers. When dialing a DSN number from a United States installation to another United States installation, it is unnecessary to dial the DSN 312 area code. When dialing a DSN number to/from overseas locations, the DSN area code must be included. The operator can be reached at commercial (719) 567-1110.
