Emergency Assistance

Planning for Emergencies

No matter how well you've planned, emergencies do happen. What should you do in case of emergency while traveling?

Important Document/Hand Carry

First of all, make sure you have all your important papers with you. Do not pack them with your household goods. Numbers for your Commander, Military Personnel Section, and your sponsor can be invaluable in case of emergency while in transit. In case of an emergency, it can serve as a reference for important telephone numbers you may need.

Emergency Assistance Organizations

This is an informative guide on relocation and travel for most military installations worldwide. If you need emergency aid, check this guide to see if you are near a military installation. If so, telephone the Buckley Airman & Family Readiness Center, 720-847-6681, and ask for the Air Force Aid/Navy & Marine Relief/Army Relief. We will assist you in a financial emergency situation. If it is after duty hours, contact the American Red Cross, 1-877-272-7337.

American Red Cross

The American Red Cross is always available for emergency aid anywhere you may be. Contact the nearest chapter by going to their website for more information. They can sometimes help with emergency financial assistance and contacting individuals needing to know where you are and what's happening.

The American Red Cross also has the ability to communicate with your home about a family emergency and is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. This includes verification of death or serious illness in the immediate family, birth announcements to fathers deployed in remote locations, and health/welfare reports resulting from a lack of communication over a long period of time.

Military Relief Societies

The Air Force Aid Society, Army Emergency Relief Society, and Navy/Marine Corps Relief Society works closely with the American Red Cross (ARC) to assist with travel requirements that are triggered by emergencies or other unique circumstances. Military relief emergency financial assistance is offered for active duty military members and their families, widows, and retirees and their families. Assistance is for basic living needs, such as rent/mortgage, food, utilities, car repair, etc. For more information, please contact the Buckley Airman and Family Readiness Center at 720-847-6681 for information on how to apply on-line.
