The Education Division is located in the Soldier Development Center (SDC), building 33009. This 220,000 square foot facility and its classroom annex are managed by the ESD; all ACES programs and services are consolidated and run out of this building. The SDC has 100+ classrooms, 13 computer classrooms, five testing rooms, an Army Learning Center and 75 seat Computer Lab. Other tenants of the SDC include the Troop School, NCO Academy, One-Stop-Shop, and Battle Command Training Center.
The Education Division provides the full range of ACES programs and services, to include: counseling for academic and career goal setting, college enrollment, guidance on financial aid and Veterans’ educational benefits; education support for geographically remote Soldiers and Veterans; proctoring of Army Personnel Testing and DLPT and certification testing; conducting scheduled and unscheduled briefings; coordinating quarterly special events; and conducting an annual graduation ceremony. This year the graduation ceremony will be 16 Nov, 1300, in Howze Auditorium. On a quarterly basis, the Education Division hosts the CSM Education Advisory Meeting to provide updates on educational programs, services, new initiatives and special events.
The Education Division conducts two concurrent BSEP courses; continuous open enrollment allows new Soldiers to commence instruction at the start of each week. The program helps Soldiers improve their GT scores for retention and reclassification.
The Education Division maintains formal Memorandums of Understanding with six academic institutions, three of which provide college courses on post. Central Texas College, offers lower level courses leading to 21 Associate degree programs; Texas A&M University-Central Texas offers upper level and graduate courses leading to 38 Bachelor’s and 26 Master’s degrees.
The Army Learning Center Library has 75 networked computers available for Soldiers and Family Members to use. In addition, a certified teacher is available to provide individual tutoring on a variety of subjects ranging from basic skills to college subjects. Over 60,000 customers use the facility each year.
The Army Continuing Education System (ACES) and Fort Hood Education Services Division mission is to deliver quality educational programs and services that enhance personal growth, professional development, and readiness of III Corps & Fort Hood soldiers and family members.
