Child Care

Wright-Patterson's Child Development Program offers the highest quality child care services available for children six weeks through twelve years of age. The program is accredited by the National Association for the Education for Young Children Early Childhood and certified by the Department of Defense and the Department of the Air Force. The goal is to offer children of active duty military and Department of Defense civilians a safe, healthy, and loving environment while away from parents and home.

Programs Offered

The program offers various services including full-day care, hourly care, and before-and-after school (BAS) care.

Respite care program: Give Parents a Break - The Air Force Aid Society (AFAS) recognizes that Air Force families are subject to unique stress due to the nature of military life--deployments, remote tours, extended working hours, etc. Families are often separated from spouses as well as from extended family members who might otherwise offer support. The purpose of this program is to offer eligible families a few hours break from the stresses of parenting. Parents may use this time to suit their personal needs. Under the program, the AFAS will pay the cost of having the Child Development Center (CDC) open one Saturday of each month.

Family Child Care (FCC)

The Family Child Care Program offers child care in a licensed family setting by providers living in base housing and the local surrounding area. These self-employed providers operate their home independently in compliance with strict Air Force policies, including frequent inspections and close monitoring by the Family Child Care staff. Extensive background screening and orientation training must be completed prior to licensing. Annual training required to maintain licensing far surpasses state requirements.

Various types of care are offered including full-day, hourly, part-day, nights and weekends. Children ages two weeks to twelve years of active duty military and Department of Defense civilians are eligible for care. To enroll in the Family Day Care Program please call 937-656-8685.

School-Age Programs (SAP)

School-age programs (SAP) are offered for children (ages 5-12 years) before and after school, during holidays, and summer vacations. The SAP programs complement, rather than duplicate, the school day. Emphasis is placed on SAP programs which meet community needs, reinforce family values, and promote the cognitive, social, emotional, and physical development of children. This area of care is currently expanding with new initiatives being implemented at the Service level to more fully meet this need. SAP programs are also required to meet national accreditation. Currently the accrediting body is the National After School Association.
