The Child Development Center (CDC) and Child Development Homes (CDH) both offer full day and hourly availability. There is also Before & After School Care and Day Camps available for ages Kindergarten - 12 years old. Developmental child care and youth recreational programs are available to all Status of Forces Agreement (SOFA) sponsored active duty military, activated reservists and guardsmen, DoD civilian personnel, and DoD contractors. Youth recreational programs are also available to military retirees and DoD civilian retirees.
If you would like to register on our Central Enrollment Waiting List for childcare for your infant-12 year old child/children, please call DSN 315-243-3219 or internationally 011-81-46-816-3219. You may apply for care using the downloadable DD 2606 Request for Care form which can be found at https://elibrary.cnic-n9portal.net/document-library/?documentlibraryaction=view&id=378.
If you are a single parent (active duty) or dual active duty, you have priority for childcare services. It is also a good idea to let the Yokosuka CDC know your approximate arrival date. You can do this by contacting the CDC program administrator by phone or email at firstname.lastname@example.org. By informing the CDC of your arrival date it enables them to try to "lock down" child care for those in priority groups. There is a waiting list for this service.
Full Day Care
The Main Child Development Center (CDC) and Ikego CDC have full day care (up to 10 hours a day) for children age 6 weeks to 5 years (not yet eligible to enroll in Kindergarten). Two meals and two snacks are served. Two outdoor exercise periods and a rest/naptime period are planned in addition to regularly scheduled age-appropriate developmental activities throughout the day. A contract and prepayment are required.
Child Development Home
A military family member in base housing provides Family Child Care. FCC providers attend 36 hours of training and have their homes inspected monthly. They care for children in a home-like environment with mixed ages of children and can often meet special needs of later hours, weekends, and last minute call. Only certified homes are sanctioned by the Commanding Officer to provide childcare at Fleet Activities, Yokosuka. The CDH Direct Cash Payment Program offers assistance to dual/single military personnel, DoD civilians, parents working shift hours/weekends, parents on full time load in school, and children attending Sullivan's/Kinnick's Special Education & Educational and Developmental Intervention Services (EDIS).
After School Program
The Yokosuka and Ikego Youth Centers offer a recreational program for children 6-12. Bowling, skating, field trips, arts & crafts and games are part of the fun. Snacks and meals are included in the daily rate. A contract and prepayment are required for a standing reservation. Daily care is available on a first come, first served space available basis. There is a waiting list for this service which carries over from one school year to the next.
If you have a family member with special needs please ensure your family member is enrolled in the Navy's Exceptional Family Member Program (EFMP). EFMP is designed to assist sailors by addressing the special needs of their exceptional family members (EFM) during the assignment process. Special needs include any special medical, dental, mental health, developmental or educational requirement, wheelchair accessibility, adaptive equipment or assistive technology devices and services. The local clinical EFMP Coordinator is available at the US Naval Hospital Yokosuka at DSN 315-243-5794 or internationally 011-81-46-896-5794. The local non-clinical EFMP Coordinator is available at the Fleet and Family Support Center Yokosuka at DSN 315-243-9605 or internationally 011-81-46-896-9605. You may also visit the Naval Hospital website. Working along side of Education and Developmental Intervention Service (EDIS) the CDC offers care to special needs children.
