Location:  Fort Gordon is located just a few miles southwest of the city of Augusta, Georgia in Richmond County, GA.  We are also 138 miles from the charm of Charleston, South Carolina, 211 miles from the beaches, entertainment, and golf courses of Myrtle Beach, and 122 miles from the historic streets of Savannah. Fort Gordon homepage

Fort Gordon is a large, multi-mission, multi-service military installation providing base services and support across a wide spectrum of training, operational and Soldier sustainment needs. The installation supports Army and Department of Defense organizations and activities performing regional and world-wide missions including communications training and operations, military intelligence, cyber operations, medical and dental care, force integration, and mobilization.

Population: Total population is 97,139. This includes 14,170 active duty, 17,697 Family Members, and 49,070 retirees and retiree Family Members.

Area Population:  Fort Gordon lies in Richmond County, which has a population of 195,844.  Neighboring Columbia County has a population of 110,627.  Aiken County, just across the river in South Carolina, has a population of 160,099.

Child Care:  The Fort Gordon Child Development Center offers full day developmental programs for infants, pre-toddlers, toddlers and preschool children ages 6 weeks to 5 years of age. You may reach the CDC by calling 706-791-2701/6761.

Schools: Students living on the installation attend Richmond County schools.  Many military dependent children attend schools in neighboring Columbia County.

Youth Services:  The Fort Gordon Youth Services is an affiliate of the Boys and Girls Clubs of America and 4-H. Our mission is to provide quality programming for youth ages 11-17 in the four service areas. These areas include: sports, fitness, life skills, citizenship and leadership opportunities; leisure and recreation activities; mentoring, intervention and support services.  For more information call 706-791-7575.

Housing: Fort Gordon has approximately 1000 family housing units. All family housing is privatized and operated by Balfour Beatty Communities.  For more information call 706-772-7041.

Employment: Companies that have facilities, headquarters or distribution centers in Augusta include CareSouth, T-Mobile, Solo Cup Company, Automatic Data Processing, International Paper, NutraSweet, Teleperformance, Sitel Corporation, Elanco, John Deere, Procter & Gamble, Kellogg's and Delta Air Lines baggage call center. The unemployment rate for the metro Augusta area is 5.7%, the rate for Georgia is 5.5%.

Post Services: 

Medical Services:  Dwight D. Eisenhower Army Medical Center, two Veterans Administration hospitals, and several other local hospitals provide medical care to Fort Gordon personnel and their family members. Appointments 706-787-5811.

Defense Service Network (DSN) Dialing Instructions

The DSN is the provider of long-distance communications service for the Department of Defense (DoD). Every installation has a special DSN number and the numbers vary by world-wide location. In order to place a call using DSN, the caller must be using a military phone on an installation. Cell phones cannot dial DSN numbers. When dialing a DSN number from a United States installation to another United States installation, it is unnecessary to dial the DSN 312 area code. When dialing a DSN number to/from overseas locations, the DSN area code must be included. The operator can be reached at commercial (719) 567-1110. Please note that long distance charges may be incurred.
